Meet Dr. Nielsen

Kirsten Nielsen, ND

A Maryland native,

Kirsten Nielsen, ND earned her bachelor of science degree with a minor in comparative religion at the George Washington University  (Washington, DC). After four years in cancer research at the National Cancer Institute (NIH), she pursued her doctorate in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University (Kenmore, WA). While at Bastyr, she maintained an ongoing extracurricular research project studying the effects of botanical extracts on immune cells.

While at Bastyr, she maintained an ongoing extracurricular research project studying the effects of botanical extracts on immune cells.

After completing her residency in naturopathic medicine at the Alaska Center for Natural Medicine (Fairbanks, AK), Dr. Nielsen continued her private practice there before relocating to Burlington, VT in the fall of 2013.

While at the Vermont Naturopathic Clinic PLC (South Burlington, VT) from 2013-2015, Dr. Nielsen was a primary care provider for adult women. She also provided specialty naturopathic care for patients of all ages to help them toward optimal health. She has special clinical interests in women’s health, reproductive health, lifestyle medicine, chronic illness prevention, weight management, and reproductive health.

Currently Dr. Nielsen manages Wellstone, PLC, which provides natural health and medicine education for the public and consultations for healthcare providers. Through Wellstone, Dr. Nielsen offers public talks, wellness classes, and corporate wellness options in northwestern Vermont. As an advocate of the growth of naturopathic medicine, Dr. Nielsen is a current member of the Vermont Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Naturopathic Academy of Primary Care Physicians. She also belongs to the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. In the past she served as Treasurer of the Alaska Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Dr. Nielsen is also currently pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. She plans to blend her experience in biomedical research and naturopathic medicine with her lifelong love of mechanics in the emerging field of bioengineering.

 

In her spare time, Dr. Nielsen enjoys cooking, physical activity, traveling, and spending time outdoors. A pianist since 6 years old, she loves music of all types.
